Legally Speaking

In January 2024 I was delighted to be asked to feature on Rob Hannas podcast Legally Speaking. It was an interesting interview…at least it was for me. I had no idea what Rob intended asking in advance and it was clear he had done his homework!

We talked about my legal career including why I am a fan of mediation.

  • Some insights from my  experience of leading a law firm.

  • How value-based pricing could redefine legal billing.

  • The pivotal role of technology in modernizing legal practices.

  • Applying Kotter's 8 Steps for effective strategic transitions.

The Renegade Lawyer Podcast

Ditching the Billable Hour with Shaun Jardine: A Revolutionary Approach to Law Firm Pricing

I was delighted to be invited on to The Renegade Lawyer Podcast hosted by US lawyer Ben Glass.

We had quite a lot in common. We have both written about our dislike of the billable hour…and we both were qualified football referees…Ben is still refereeing soccer!

In addition to running his own law firm with his son Brian, Ben has created a group called Great Legal Marketing, which has been helping solo and small firm lawyers make more money, get more clients, and still get home in time for dinner.  He calls it the TheGLMTribe.com

Listen to the podcast. It was great fun to do. If you enjoy it, also listen to one of Ben’s other podcasts with a matrimonial lawyer called Marco Brown- some great content in that one as well.

  • Conveyancing Fees: What’s Next?

In this podcast first broadcast on 18th July 2022 I was the guest of David Opie from the Today's Conveyancer magazine we discussed the opportunity for conveyancing firms to charge more for their work.

We discussed the "unscientific LinkedIn survey" (see my blog), where I established that 78% of consumers would pay over £2000 for the conveyance of a property worth £650,000. And yet, a subsequent online search found that none of the online quotation engines tested provided a figure any where near that. We also discussed the tactics for helping conveyancing firms understand the needs and wants of home movers, before providing a price.
